How you can buy from us

Take the full service, or only the part you need

You can take a price ex works and handle the rest yourself, or have one company source, inspect, document and ship a mixed list. Many orders combine the two, and we work to whichever suits you.

Standard

Supply ex works

Priced against your specification, ex works or free carrier at the manufacturer's or stockist's premises, ready for your forwarder to collect, with export clearance arranged where you need it.

Documentation and inspection

Material certificates and certificates of conformity with the goods. Third-party inspection arranged at additional cost where you or the destination require it.

On request

Consolidated delivery

Where the logistics allow, lines from several manufacturers brought together and shipped as one consignment, with one set of papers, to the Incoterm you choose.

Consolidation, on request

Six manufacturers. One shipment. One set of papers.

When a customer wants it, and where the logistics allow, we bring lines from several manufacturers together, check the paperwork against the order, and ship them as one consignment to the agreed Incoterm.

Documentation

The paperwork is part of the goods

A valve that sits in customs for a fortnight because a certificate of origin was wrong has cost the operator more than the valve. In the markets we supply, the file that travels with the goods matters as much as the goods.

So we agree the paperwork when we quote, and check it against the order before the goods are released.

  • Material certificates to EN 10204, type 2.2, 3.1 or 3.2 as the order specifies, passed on unaltered from the manufacturer, with certificates of conformity
  • Inspection and test plans, manufacturer's data records and NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 sour-service compliance where specified
  • Certificates of origin certified by the chamber of commerce and legalised where the destination still requires it, and filings and certificates for destination customs and conformity schemes, such as advance cargo information (ACI) in Egypt and Libya, SABER in Saudi Arabia and PVoC in East Africa
  • Third-party inspection, arranged at additional cost where the customer or destination requires it
  • Sanctions and export-control screening on every order
  • Anti-bribery procedures under the UK Bribery Act 2010, and counterparty due diligence

Since 1986

Forty years supplying the region's energy projects

Over four decades SLG has supplied equipment into some of the largest energy projects in North and West Africa, the Gulf, Central Asia and India. What began with valves, piping and fabricated process equipment from European manufacturers has grown to cover the equipment and spares that operating plant runs on.

Today that experience is focused on the Middle East and Africa: one UK counterparty for the whole list, with the paperwork checked against the order before shipment.

Most of the work happens between the order and the shipment: several manufacturers, several origins and one customs file, all lined up before anything leaves the works.

How we think about the job
UK trading baseMarkets we supply: the Middle East and Africa

Where we operate

Based in the UK, supplying the Middle East and Africa

We buy and contract from the United Kingdom, sourcing from manufacturers in Europe, the Gulf, Asia and the Americas.

Our customers are operators and contractors across the Middle East and Africa, from the Gulf and North Africa to West and East Africa.

We work with local partners where a market calls for it, and every order is contracted with SLG in the United Kingdom.

Sectors

The sectors we supply

Four different industries with the same problem: long lists, many makers, tight dates.

The mixed list is the hard part: several manufacturers, several origins, one deadline. That is where we are most useful, though we are just as happy to quote a single line ex works.

We buy against the specification on the enquiry, whatever sector it comes from, and where you want it we carry the order through inspection, paperwork and freight as one shipment with one set of papers.

Drilling rig and site camp in desert terrain

SECTOR 01

Oil & Gas

Upstream, midstream and terminal operations run on parts that have to be right first time and available when the plant is down. We source them against specification, whether it calls for API 6D pipeline valves, ASME B16.5 flanges or a metering component to a stated tag number. For drilling operations we supply rig spares and wellsite needs: engines, generators, mud pump and power-end spares, handling equipment and wellsite consumables.

  • Valves & actuation
  • Instrumentation & metering
  • Piping, fittings & flanges
  • Rig spares & wellsite supply
  • Pumps & rotating equipment
  • Safety, fire & PPE

Documentation. EN 10204 material certificates (2.2, 3.1 or 3.2) as the order specifies, NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 compliance for sour service, certificates of origin, material traceability, third-party inspection on request.

SECTOR 02

Petrochemical & Refining

Refineries and petrochemical plants buy on two clocks: long-lead equipment planned years ahead, and turnaround spares needed in weeks. We work to both, against tag lists and fixed shutdown windows.

  • Process equipment & packages
  • Instrumentation & metering
  • Pumps & rotating equipment
  • MRO tools & consumables
  • Valves & actuation
  • HVAC & refrigeration

Documentation. Material certification, positive material identification where specified, certificates of origin, inspection release notes.

SECTOR 03

Power & Utilities

Generation, transmission and distribution equipment, and the spares that keep existing stations running, including where the original item is obsolete and an equivalent has to be specified.

  • Electrical & power equipment
  • Water treatment
  • Instrumentation & metering
  • MRO tools & consumables
  • Lubricants & chemicals
  • Safety, fire & PPE

Documentation. Type-test and routine test certificates, ATEX or IECEx certification for hazardous-area equipment, certificates of origin, factory acceptance test (FAT) reports, witnessed where specified.

SECTOR 04

Industrial & Infrastructure

General industry, plant and machinery, materials handling, and the equipment that keeps operating sites and camps running. We source these lines to the same specification and documentation standard as process equipment.

  • Plant, lifting & handling
  • Site, camp & facilities
  • MRO tools & consumables
  • Vehicles & fleet spares
  • Water treatment
  • Safety, fire & PPE

Documentation. Certificates of origin, declarations of conformity and proof-load test certificates for lifting equipment, packing lists and export documentation.

Beyond these four

Marine, mining and other industrial requirements are quoted on request, and we also price requirements outside the categories on this site.

How we work

As much of the process as you need

Every order runs through the same six steps. Which of them we handle is up to you: you can buy ex works, or hand us the whole list through to delivery.

01

Enquiry

Send a specification, a parts list, a tag list or a drawing, with quantity, delivery point and required date. We acknowledge every enquiry within one working day.

Accepted formats: PDF, XLSX, DOCX, CSV.

02

Quotation

We price your specification line by line, with a lead time we expect to keep and the documentation each line will carry. If a date is tight, we say so at the start.

03

Source & procure

We offer and procure against your specification, from a manufacturer able to meet it. Title, risk and payment terms are agreed with you order by order and set out in writing before we buy. Once the order is placed, we expedite every line with the manufacturer and report progress against the dates we quoted.

04

Inspect & document

Material certificates to EN 10204 and certificates of conformity, with certificates of origin, packing lists and export documentation as the order requires. Third-party inspection by an independent body can be arranged at additional cost.

05

Delivery

Unless agreed otherwise, goods are offered ex works from the manufacturer's or stockist's premises, packed and marked for export to the instructions on your purchase order. On request, and where the logistics allow, we consolidate lines from several manufacturers into one consignment with one set of papers and ship to the Incoterm you choose.

06

After delivery

Every line is documented to the level agreed at quotation, and we remain the party you deal with afterwards, for queries, replacements and repeat orders.

Quality

Checked at every handover

Most supply problems start where an order passes from one party to the next. We check at each of those points, and keep a file on every order so that a question months later can be answered from the record.

  • Your specification checked against the enquiry before we quote, with any gaps raised at the start
  • Our purchase order to the manufacturer mirrors yours: specification, documents, inspection points and dates
  • Documents checked against the goods and the order before release
  • Export packing and marking to your purchase order
  • A complete order file kept for every supply

Commercial terms

Our standard terms

Every order is contracted in writing before we buy. The main points are below; the full terms of sale are published here.

Delivery terms

Ex works or free carrier (FCA) at the manufacturer's or stockist's premises as standard, under Incoterms® 2020. Other terms on request, such as CIP or DAP to site, or CIF to the port of discharge for sea freight, with the named place stated on every quotation. If you cannot act as exporter, we quote FCA and arrange export clearance through the manufacturer or our forwarder. Delivered duty paid only by prior agreement, where local import arrangements allow.

Payment

Letter of credit, cash against documents or open account, agreed per order and stated on the quotation. Open account is subject to credit approval.

Currency

Quoted in US dollars or sterling.

Lead times

Stated per line on the quotation, and updated in writing if a manufacturer's date moves.

Warranty

Goods are warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for the period stated on the quotation, typically 12 months from delivery, and we pass on the benefit of the manufacturer's warranty. We handle any claim for you.

Installation and site work

If the goods need installing, commissioning or training on site, we can line up a qualified local contractor and coordinate them with the delivery.

Compliance

Screened before we buy

Every counterparty and every order is checked before a purchase order is placed. Where a concern cannot be resolved, we decline the order.

  • Screening against UK, UN, EU and US sanctions lists on every order
  • Controlled goods supplied only under the export or trade control licences required in the UK, the country of shipment and the United States, with US export controls applied to US-origin items and to foreign-made items with controlled US content
  • Know-your-customer checks on every new counterparty
  • Anti-bribery procedures under the UK Bribery Act 2010, applied to customers, suppliers and intermediaries
  • End-use and end-user statements where the goods require them

About SLG

Built for mixed, hard-to-source orders

A British trading company with forty years as a supplier to the energy industry, serving operators and contractors across the Middle East and Africa.

What we do

We take the chasing off your desk

A single requirement often draws on six or eight manufacturers across several countries. Chasing each of them for prices, dates and certificates eats a procurement team's week. We do that work and hand back one order, one shipment and one set of papers, with one company answerable for all of it. If all you need is a price ex works, we will give you that too.

Our business is supply: components, spare parts and packaged equipment. When a job also needs installation, commissioning or training, we bring in contractors who do that work well and keep their programme in step with the delivery.
